1960's Ruth C. Brice Abstract/Cubist Oil
Here is a little background on Brice:
Ruth Cobb Brice (1899-1972) was born in Knoxville, TN. She was a teacher, photographer, and a self taught artist. She was also the author of the first black female published book from Knoxville, "He Came, He Saw He Conquered.
This is a very interesting piece of hers done in an unusual cubist/surrealist style. The painting portrays 2 bird-like creatures among a wood of geometric trees. Painting is signed and dated “Ruth C Brice, 9-1965” in the lower left hand corner. Overall dimensions are 36″ × 30″ (38″ × 32″ with frame). Both painting and frame are in excellent condition. This is a great piece for a collector of African American artists or a fan of great Mid-Century abstract art.
